Ebook About
A pioneering exploration of the differences between the brain’s right and left hemispheres and their effects on society, history, and culture“Persuasively argues that our society is suffering from the consequences of an over-dominant left hemisphere losing touch with its natural regulative ‘master’ the right. Brilliant and disturbing.”—Salley Vickers, a Guardian Best Book of the Year This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain—the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the ‘rational’ side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master. As he shows, it is the right side which is the more reliable and insightful. Without it, our world would be mechanistic – stripped of depth, colour and value.  "One of the few contemporary works deserving classic status.”—Nicholas Shakespeare, The Times “A profound examination.”—Philip Pullman “Clear, penetrating, lively, thorough and fascinating. . . . I couldn’t put it down.”—Mary Midgley, The Guardian

Book The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World Review :

Some interesting Content, (especially the theory about attention 0n pages 25-30) but Publisher did a bad job. 534 page paperback with small inner margins makes it hard to read the print near the binding. The notes in the back are about a size 8 font. The spacing between lines is minimal, All these combine to make reading potentially difficult . Also printed on cheap (high acid content) paper, which will yellow eventually. A shameful job by a University press. Interesting books like this deserve much better. This is not rocket science. It shows a real lack of respect for the author, the material, and the readers. The publishing deserves a Zero. If interested author also is on Utube.
First of all, physically, this is one of the ugliest books that I have ever seen. The tiny font fills the page, leaving almost no margin on top, bottom or side, and makes one want to push the thing away. I had to laugh when I first saw it. Are they serious? What was the publisher thinking? Where is the concern for and the love of: QUALITY?But since there was obviously no investment in editing, what choice did the publisher have? The writing style is merciless, almost free associating, completely lacking in simplicity, efficiency, clarity, and persuasiveness. There is a nervous and traumatizing energy to it, which is at least partly due to its repetitiveness. This text, if reproduced in any normal font and aesthetic presentation would consume more than a 1000 pages.Sentences should link ideas together, and build to a point, and do so simply and clearly. This author repeats himself and repeats himself and repeats himself. The tiny font and the lack of margins were necessitated by the sheer avalanche of verbal diarrhea. Has the author never met the concept of a paragraph? Or ever had a thought of consideration for his reader? Its a shame because I was hoping to learn something compelling and interesting about myself and about the reasons for why the history of civilization is the way it is, but honestly, after 50 pages, I can tell that I should spend my time with almost anything else.I start to skim sentences. I tire of being told what I will be told. Just tell me already. Where was I? Did I read this before or no? The brain hemispheres are they alike, or not alike, or zzzzzzzzzzzz.
